Civil War Era Girl With A China Head Doll.

Here is a Charming Vintage Civil War Era Photo of a little girl holding her Precious China Head Doll. It looks like a Jenny Lind doll. Jenny Lind lived from 1820 -1887. She was a Swedish girl that was known for her wholesomeness and the purity of her soprano voice. It was said she sounded like a little bird singing, that's why they called her The Swedish Nightingale. In 1850, P.T. Barnum, the great showman, brought Jenny to New York for her first concert tour in America. Because of his heavy promotion, excited crowds flocked to her concerts and her name and image were on every imaginable consumer goods, such as toys, clothing, furniture, music, gloves, and so on. There was such a demand for anything to do with Jenny Lind, they called the excitement "Lindomania". This was even stronger in England than in the United States. It's said she was the first real public celebrity. Eventually, she retired from public life and married her music arranger. It is said that the world will never again hear a voice so sweet. I wish that I could hear her voice for myself. Sometimes I wish I had a time machine, and I would go back and see so many wonderful things. If you could go back in time, what would you like to see? ~Lovethemsteiff~
